ENSEMBLES AT PICKENS HIGH SCHOOL

Pride of Pickens Marching Band

The Pride of Pickens Band is a volunteer, extra-curricular ensemble.  All band students interested in marching are allowed to join, and anyone may audition for Color Guard.   The marching band performs at all football games, the Jasper Christmas Parade, the Veteran's Day Parade, and the Marble Festival.   The marching band also competes two to three times each year.

Symphonic Band

Symphonic Band meets during 4th period both semesters with higher calibur musicians being invited to join this ensemble.   The Symphonic Band performs at four concerts during the school year, including Large Group Performance Evaluations (LGPE).  Symphonic Band generally plays music from the GMEA 5 and 6 level list.


Concert Band

Concert Band is offered 2nd period throughout the school year.  The Concert Band usually plays music from the GMEA 3 and 4 level list.  The Concert Band performs at four concerts during the school year, including Large Group Performance Evaluations.


Color Guard

The Color Guard is an auditioned group that performs with the marching band.  Auditions take place in April of every year and the Color Guard is directed by Mrs. Clarissa Curtis.

Winter Guard

The Winter Guard is an auditioned group that performs from December-March of each year. This group competes several times each year. Auditions are held in late November.

Jazz Band

Jazz Band is an extracurricular group that meets from November-May under the direction of Pickens Junior High School band director, Mr. Andrew Smith.  Instrumentation is based on traditional jazz parts, but may incorporate other interested players.

Percussion Ensemble

The Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Matt Andrews, is an extracurricular group that meets from December-May.

Saxophone Ensemble

The Saxophone Ensemble is a student-led group who meets weekly and performs at one or more concerts per year.
